TOINKS & BOOM! This police chief does not know the meaning of timeliness of news for the public.

Four hours after the drowning of five minors happened last Tuesday, a reporter called up P/Chief Inspector Dominic Poblete, police chief of Bugallon town. This was on the suggestion of P/Superintendent Ferdinand De Asis, provincial police spokesperson and chief of the Police Community Precinct, who broke the story to the media. Poblete should know better nga naman about the incident being the police chief there.

Poblete, in fairness, answered his phone but unfortunately begged off to say further details when asked two basic questions like where exactly did the victims drown, where were their parents at the time of the incident?.

His reply to the two easy questions was, “Ma’am ongoing pa po investigation. Mag fo-forward na lang kami ng report sa inyo pag meron na”. End of conversation.

“Ok ka lang sir? Naiintindihan mo yung sinsabi mo?”

Thus, the poor reporter, pissed over how she was answered, reported to De Asis how bright boy Poblete responded. The reporter said to De Asis, “Sir ongoing pa daw investigation at ayaw pang magbigay ng ibang basic information si Poblete. Baka po next week pwede na.”

De Asis replied, “Toinks!”

PDAF FOR FIESTA? If it is true that a former congressman in Pangasinan allocated P500,000 in financial assistance from his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) to bankroll a town fiesta where his wife was the mayor a few years ago, then it would not be fair if that honorable legislator is not haled to court like the others who misused their PDAFs.

If that claim is backed up by documentary evidence, that former official is as guilty as those who deliberately channeled their PDAFs to non-existent non-government organizations (NGOs) masterminded by PDAF Scam Queen Janette Napoles.

That was the first time we heard that PDAF funds were used to bankroll a fiesta celebration since PDAF is supposedly intended to boost countryside development and fiestas are not among those that qualify for development. Leonardo Micua
