From Durian with Love

SINASABI na natin yan noon pa e.

Mayor Rody Duterte is fast, not slowly, inching his way to the presidency.

Bilib na kayo?

You already know it from the surveys – the SWS and Pulse Asia surveys released Tuesday evening that our friend has entered the Top 5 presidential wannabes.

Binay is still on top with 29 percent… Ok lang kasi matagal nang nangangampanya.

The superstars are Grace Poe with 23 percent, and Duterte who skyrocketed from ground zero with 12 percent.

Mar Roxas? Apektado ng Mamasapano debacle! Even P-noy’s rating has nose-dived.

Erap Estrada and Miriam are in the Top 5 yet.

Oh, yes, we were in Davao City a few days back. We honored the invitation of Mayor Duterte to grace the city’s 78th chartering.

Seated beside Duterte and Senator Peter Cayetano, we had this interesting exchange with the new superstar of Philippine politics. Ay, oo nga pala, kasama natin ang ating anak na si Nanoy ng Aksyon Radyo .

Nanoy was impressed with Davao City’s progress.

Sana lumukso ang Dagupan para maabot niya ang super status of Davao City, he intimated. Its peace and order is excellent! Kasi pag may luko, or anyone confirmed na luko, itinatapon sa dagat! No, not literally, but stories like that are persistent and Davaoenos love to retell it. What stands out is anyone who does a hanky-panky in the city will be thrown out.

We’ve been telling Jun Velasco who seems to favor Mar Roxas who, it’s true, is perceived as least corrupt that a Philippine president is catapulted to the stars by, unusual event or events or a phenomenal wave!

It’s Duterte or possibly Grace Poe who answers to that requirement!

Davao is gifted with local but exotic fruits.

Natikman nyo na ba ang kanilang pomelo at papaya? Why do their fruits taste exceptionally sweet?

Mayor Duterte offered us Davao’s world-famous Durian fruit. We initially declined it because of the smell. But he insisted, so we just take a little, say, one, two or three bites.

By gum, upon taking a bite we did not notice, the first bite was followed by another, and another – until, and here’s the catch, we found out to our chagrin, we finished off with ten seeds (or fruits!).

Durian is the case of the more we tried, the more we liked!

We remembered an anecdote on Napoleon Bonaparte.

BTW, Kayong mga maselan, we warn you about this.

When informed about Josephine’s anxiety about his long absence because he was at Waterloo fighting the troops of the Duke of Wellington, Napoleon Bonaparte sent a cable to his sensual wife with these words: “Jo, please don’t take a bath for three months till I come home!”

Is this why the French love wine and blue cheese?

Baka hindi niyo alam na yong French kiss ay galing kina Napoleon at Josephine!!!

Happy Women’s Day!

Our friend Engr. Rosendo “Sendong” So has asked the Senate to conduct an investigation into the black sand mining case in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Sendong, campaign manager of our cousin, former congressman Mark Cojuangco seems unsatisfied or confused about the explanation of the provincial government regarding the Black Sand mining.

At the rate the probers are going, the Lingayen black sand is becoming white – so that what we now have is white sand, not black sand.

Ano ba naman kayo, our friend Sendong, gusto na ba niyang maging Boracay ang Lingayen Beach?

Kung sabagay, mas may appeal ang white sand?
