Keeping our roads safe

FINALLY, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) office already has its own breath analyzers.

These are long overdue for the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act passed last year. With these analyzers, tiyak, mababawasan na ang accidents sa ating mga kalsada, lalo na sa mga motorcycle riders who are drunk.

But then again, the LTO should implement the law strictly. No exceptions. Let’s not allow this!

Let us always remember that a drunk driver is dangerous. Hindi lamang ang sarili niya ang maaaring mapahamak but other motorists.

Pero, teka, paano naman iyong mga naka-droga? Ang batas ay “Anti-Drunk and Drugged Act.” How do we know if the driver is high on drugs?

In the absence of an equipment or gadget to test this instantly like the breath analyzers, siguro naman, puwede nang pairalin dito ang common sense. If not, law enforcement officers should undergo training to immediately detect drugged drivers.

Drug users are more dangerous dahil wala sila sa wasto at matinong kaisipan kapag high na high na sa illegal drugs! When in doubt, dapat isailalim sila agad sa drug test! And for all we know, baka hindi lang users ang mga ito kundi illegal drug traffickers pa!

Let us keep our roads safer by removing drunk and drugged drivers!

The provincial board is planning to offer a P500,000 reward to anyone who can give information on the suspects in the shooting and wounding of former Board Member, now assistant provincial health officer Dr. Jeremy Rosario.

There are those kasi na nag-aalangang mag-offer ng information just because there is nothing in it for them. Others reject the idea of volunteering information because of possible retaliation by suspects.

Aside from the cash reward, government has a witness protection program that makes sure that witnesses who give the vital information are protected.

May 25 index crimes lang ang ini-report mula January to March this year compared to 40 last year.

Pag sinabing index crimes, kasama rito ang murder, homicide, robbery, theft at physical injury. Ang non-index crimes naman ay iyong enforcement ng mga batas on anti-illegal drugs and firearms use, at iba pa.

His report also showed the time when crimes were committed. For example, most robbery incidents occurred 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. on Fridays, while physical injury incidents naman occured on Saturdays and Sundays. It also identified places were the crimes were mostly committed.

Marami tuloy ang nagtatanong if all police stations in the province do this analysis. Because this analysis helps a law enforcer anticipate which areas and time to watch in a particular time of day to prevent crime occurrence. This way, the police force becomes proactive, not reactive, iyong saka lang kikilos kung may krimen nang nagaganap.

“To serve and to protect.”

Only 45 days after the areas were declared red tide-free, the red tide alert in the towns of Bolinao and Anda is up again.

Hot climate kasi has started and the poisonous organisms sa tubig na nasa pagitan ng Bolinao at Anda ay muling dumami at umabot sa dangerous level na. Kaya bawal na namang kumain ng tahong at talaba from the two towns. Dahil sa pagkamatay ng isang tao at pagka-ospital ng mahigit 30 iba pa last December, agriculture officials are now strictly monitoring ang mga ibinibentang talaba at tahong.

The red tide situation is worrying resort owners in Bolinao because tourists might think that all of Bolinao is affected.
