The issue is the candidate

MOST political balbalita or news bits today are about embattled Vice President Jejomar Binay and his alleged multi-million corrupt record especially during his many years as mayor of Makati City.

His entire family has been over exposed in all forms of media—print, TV and broadcast.

His wife, former Mayor Elenita, son, Mayor Junjun who have occupied Makati City hall, have been allegedly involved in massive corruption activities.

Well, wala pa namang conviction in the court of law…but they are being massively crucified in the court of public opinion.

Siguro normal lang na katakot-takot na corruption issues ang ibinabato sa kanila, because they have served Makati City for the last 24 years!

We are not sure if Binay won as vice presidential candidate last time. But this time he has become more popular because he has been establishing linkages to many local governments. When he ran for vice president, nobody exposed his alleged corruption.

Now—it’s different. They are throwing all sorts of dirt and mud at him.

Matindi ang epekto ng media assault. Slowly but surely media will crush its target.

Now, they, the political analysts are talking about Binay’s viability as a presidential candidate.

At the rate the demolition job is going, baka wala pa ang election, wasak na.

Take the cases of Gibo Teodoro and super popular Manny Villar.

Gibo’s closeness to then President GMA on the other hand dragged him down the river of no return.

Will he make it?

Will P-noy, who is being attacked also from all sides, be a viable endorser?

If you ask us, it’s not the endorser that matters now.

Filipino voters are much wiser and more sensitive, more analytic, more perceptive now.

What’s important, if you ask us, are the candidate’s competence, honesty, integrity and charm to the elector.

If Binay is clean—he may end up a viable bet.

If not, that’s another story.

We wish to assure Sunday Punch reader Juanito Soriano that the upgrading of the Amado Rd. (renamed Sec. Francisco Duque Rd) is still ongoing. What we wrote the other week was about the upgrading of that piece of infrastructure in Dagupan City.

It could be that the job has not yet been completed.

If that portion fronting LNU was completed ahead, it’s because the PhilHealth and the Barangay Hall are located in the area. You know, naman, people availing themselves of PhilHealth come from all parts of the province.

We have called up Nelson Sotto, an assistant to Cong. Gina de Venecia, about the unfinished portion. He gave assurance the job will be completed in due time.

Governor Spines, we are told, must be back from a US trip.

We at Deretsahan with Sec. Bebot Villar would just be too willing and in fact eager to guest him or his pogi son Board Member Pogi, a candidate for governor, in our radio program.

What? What did you say, negative or positive?

Honestly, lahat positive. Madami na-touched sa kanyang good words for Guv’nor Spines.

Magaling na pulitiko yan si Mark e… But we felt his sincerity nang sinabi niya ang mga praises niya kay Gob Spines.
