TEACHERS’ LOAN. The Pangasinan National High School (Lingayen) massacre of three teachers and a loan collector and the wounding of three other teachers by a policeman should send a strong message to teachers who avail of loans, left and right.

It’s okay to borrow money but be sure you pay it. Of course the manner by which Police Officer 3 Domino Alipio attempted to force the payments was inhumane. Killing should never be the means unless you have the Italian mafia behind you.

I got some reports that some teachers gave Alipio their ATM cards so he can withdraw their payments. But some of these ATM cards had been declared lost by the debtor- teachers where their salaries are deposited. The poor guy Alipio naturally could not get any, except a transaction record from the ATM machine that read: “account closed.”

Alipio probably knew his financiers would be out to kill him if he could not produce their investments and profits. So he opted for killing as payback, forgetting God’s Commandment “Thou shall not kill”. Now his fellow comrades in the PNP are suffering the consequences of his acts. Their children are bullied in school.

Still about this money lending business, I heard from the grapevine that one former police director of Pangasinan was among the financiers. But the guy told this reporter he had divested his investments in Alipio’s operations long before the PNHS massacre happened. He said in jest that he would extend a loan to me, sans any interest, in case I would need some cash.

I said, “Thanks, but no thanks, sir, I don’t wanna be killed because of a loan!” – Tita Roces

STILL NO PERMANENT POLICE PD IN PANGASINAN. Pangasinan is the third most populous province in the country. This fact alone should prompt those in charge of peace and order in the higher headquarters to provide the province with a well-organized police leadership.

However, it has been two years since the province had its full-time police director. Even after a number of high profile shooting incidents have already happened, still, no permanent police provincial director has been appointed.

I join the call of Gov. Amado Espino, supported by the mayors leagues in the province, to put an end to the irregular system being applied in the province by the national government. If we want a police leader to be fully responsible and accountable for the job, then he/she should be given the full authority over a prescribed period. – Johanne R. Macob

SK ELECTIONS. While I urge the youth to take part in the SK registration, I cannot blame them if they remain indifferent because of the fact that the promised reforms for the SK have been deferred.

The set election date is a few months from now and without any change in the law to address the issues of corruption and political dynasty, it would be better if the election is postponed again until the needed reform is instituted.

Anyway, the youth are already represented in the Task Force on Youth Development. – Hilda M. Austria
