History repeating itself in Jaycee politics?

Gonz Duque

By Gonzalo Duque

FIRST, we express our sympathy to our friend Orly Navarro, manager of Radio DWIZ Dagupan, for what happened to him last Wednesday. He was shot from behind near his residence in Brgy. Pantal, Dagupan. It was almost 1 a.m., according to reports.

Alam mo pare Orly, trabajo yan ng mga may malalim na inggit sa yo.

Yan ang problema sa ating mga pogi e.

But, like many of our friends and colleagues, we sincerely prayed for your survival, recovery and return to normal life.

And like what we told you. Hindi mamamatay ang mga bad grass. Look at Alan Sison, this your columnist and others who are masamang damo. Ayaw tablan nag kamatayan.

Marami pa tayong gagawin para sa kabutihan ng bayan, pare.

Get well soon!

BTW, as we go to press, we came across published items linking Mayor Belen Fernandez and Chief of Police Chris Abrahano on the attempt on Orly’s life.

Agay met la yan panag galaw. Solved na nga yong crime e! Bakit pa ginugulo? Belen, being the chairwoman of the Region l Peace and Order council, would be the last person to even think of inflicting harm on Orly.

Anooo!? Kritik nen Belen si Orly? What can you expect, DWIZ is owned by Cabangon Chua?!

Susto pa la tan! Manpasnok so Diyos no laokan or bahiran  yoy pulitika lamet so simplin police matter. Solved lay sakey ya kriminalidad. Don’t pollute it any more.

Let’s salute our local police headed by Chris Abrahano for a job well done.

Hmm…ano ba itong nangyayari sa Jaycees, yes, in Dagupan and the national level?

Balita na kahit saan, Vice Mayor Brian Lim, butihing anak ng dating Mayorand former Philippine Jaycees president Benjie Lim, ay puspusang nangangampanya para presidente ng Philippine Jaycees, Inc. Following the footsteps of his father, huh?

Brian, leader of the absentee members of the Sanggguniang Panlungsod, has recently been elected area vice president of the Philippine Jaycees covering North-Central Luzon.

Now, he is running for JCP president.

Nothing wrong with that. Noble intention nga e.

Kaya lang, he is playing his cards in an unacceptable, unhonorable, fraudulent manner, just like pasencia na ang mga masasagasaan—what his father did in the organization in the past.  Jayceeism is known worldwide as a leadership training organization.

By the way, Brian has an opponent from Dagupan who is also running for the Philippine Jaycees presidency. She is Atty. Weng de Vera, daughter of Romeo and Belen de Vera, a consignacion. Very intelligent, prim and proper and talagang mala Jaycee ang attitude.

We are in principle for her because she is playing the game fair and square.

Back to Brian. Ayaw sana nating pakialaman ang bagong laro niyang ito, but as a former legal council of the Philippine Jaycees and pillar of the local chapter—ang tunay at orig na Dagupan Jaycees Inc.—we feel we have a duty to expose, criticize, and censure malpractices that stain the good name of the organization.

You know how Benjie maneuvered his way to the presidency of the local chapter? He and his group mangled the list of voters to include fake and non-Dagupan residents.

Our group protested that and compelled the SEC to allow the local chapter to be split.

Benjie’s group was assigned the name “Bangus Jaycees of Dagupan,” while the orig (our group) “Dagupan Jaycees, Inc.” The name of the orig, our group, was undisturbed. Due to the the need for peace and reconciliation, Dagupan Inc. did not object to their use of the name “Dagupan Bangus Jaycees,” instead of the awkward “Bangus Jaycees of Dagupan, Inc.” We are restating this factual record to highlight a point.

Now, Brian, who is fast learning the ropes is reportedly reviving the same fraudulent methods—resurrecting dead chapters all over the Philippines, paying their membership dues and, of course, their plane tickets.

Some chapters with entrenched moral values and high principles are executing sworn affidavits certifying that their chapters are “no longer active.”

Antoya, agagui? The JC presidency at all cost? Even against the principles of fair play? Mali ang ipinapakita sa ating future leaders!

How about Weng? We heard she would rather stick to the rules. JCP election will again show if the good forces will win. If the bad will win, you can be sure what will happen to the organization and, in the end, our country.

Bishop Socrates Villegas must be scratching his head when we, his seatmate, stood up to propose the revival of the death penalty especially against drug pushers/manufacturers.

Mayor Belen Fernandez, chairman of the peace and order regional council, was also surprised how we could speak up on this advocacy while seated with a known advocate of a ban of the death penalty.

Sorry, po, but we couldn’t help pursuing the matter because we are worried about the emergence of unstoppable giants in the illegal drug trade in our country.

Know what? The drug lords in Columbia and Mexico can literally raise an army and control their country’s, justice system. They are that powerful!

Do we want this to happen in our country?

Of course not, and so we reiterate our support for the revival of the death penalty on heinous crimes, especially these devilish drug manufacturers and drug pushers.

We fully agree with Chairperson Belen on the expressed need to enlarge the council to include other sectors who need to be protected from crimes. The education sector was identified since some schools and colleges have problems with hazing, bullies, etc.

Salamat, chairperson Belen.
