Pangasinan

dia ed nipangaw a dapag a bansa na pusok

anggapo’y maanlong a bosis ono Catullus

ono kumasamplon musian onkalab ed Parnasu

 

kanian inagbibit ko iya’y onoonan liknaan

pian nipintak na salita tan kolor so pamawi

ed ampasiseng a panaon na Caboloan –

 

saray awaran tan uliran iran inkorit

ed aninagan ya bolobolong na impakalingwan

angga’d itatken kon imbeneg la’d lingwan

 

say kanonotan dapul la’d panaanap

na bawig ed bukig a sinummingan

tan say dakep na ag ni-Babel kon dila

 

onsabi so panaon ompano nanonotan da ak

ed Parthenon iran ipaalagey ko para’d anlong

here in the captive country of my heart

there is no bardic voice or Catullus

or a tenth muse to climb its Parnassus

 

and so i carry this primal passion

to paint with words and colours to reclaim

the emerald days of Caboloan –

 

its histories and legends written on

the translucent pages of oblivion

till i fall with years haply forgotten

 

my memory grey with uncovering

the fulcrum of my orient beginning

and the beauty of my unBabeled tongue

 

in time perhaps they will remember me

in Parthenons i will build for poesie
