Tanga!

By Gonzalo Duque

OUR Pangasinan Press Club will have as its guest of honor on October 30 the country’s media czar, fellow Rotarian Sec. Herminio “Sonny” Coloma.

He is Gov. Amado “Spines” Espino’s guest, too, and the Rotarians led by Assistant Gov. Fred Caguioa of the Rotary Club of Downtown Dagupan headed by its president Tony Manuel.

In case you don’t know yet, Sec. Coloma is an incisive columnist of Business World and former top honcho of the Asian Institute of Management.

Welcome, Sir Sonny, to the PPC and the great province of Pangasinan.

Masaya so PPC Media in Action forum last Wednesday. Our guest was none other than reform-minded Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez. We consider her the lucky one because she seems to be the Dagupan leader who came at the right time and place.

Nen nan file na COC, si Belen inolop na angkakabaleg ya pamilya who we consider the biggest pillars of the city. They are the Fernandezes led by former Mayor Al Fernandez, his nephew Michael, candidate for vice mayor, and his wife Maybelyn Fernandez, and son re-electionist Alfie Fernandez; the De Venecias led by former speaker Joe de Venecia and his wife Rep. Gina de Venecia, and candidate for councilor Solo de Venecia; the Manaoises led by former Vice Mayor Teddy Manaois and his sister Marlyn M. Reyna, a candidate for councilor and outgoing Councilor Dada M. Reyna’s mother; the Reynas led by former Councilor Liberato “Ope” Reyna Jr., and re-electionist Councilor Karlos Reyna, son of Ope’s brother Ramon of the city water district; the Tamayos led by comebacking Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo, the Samsons led by last-termer Councilor Chito Samson whose son Saysi is a councilor candidate; the Fabias led by Kapitan Marvin Fabia and the Quintos led by former Councilor Fred Quinto, both candidates for councilor.

Ay, dakdakkel ni na agagui. We have prevailed on our son Nanoy to take it easy muna this year… pang next election year la ta walay planoy bulog na Duques.

Amta yo, say iwawakawak na biec ya partido ya arayan angkakabaleg ya pamilya ed Dagupan  anggap[oy kwenta ra kuno ta panay bungis tan anggapoy ginawa ran pankaabigay ciudad.

Makapasisinaguem, kabaleyan. Makapataktakot so ibabaga toyay managderal na maong ya intilak na aray atateng ya nampabaleg na inar-aron ciudad.

In point of fact, we have absolutely no right to condemn the past unless we want to court disaster. As the sage would say, those who condemn the past are condemned to repeat it. Agda anta tan ya balitok ya aral ya impaeksab na aray grandpas and grandmas tayo.

Our National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal has warned, “ang hindi marunong lumingon sa kanyang pinangalingan ay di makakarating sa kanyang patutunguhan” (he who doesn’t know how to look back cannot reach his destination).

Ang kapal, awa Manny Roy?

Akin Manny baby, agmo la ra iitdan na marakep ya simbawa amo? Mabetbet iran napatapba!

If there was Manny in that camp, that fatal mistake – attacking the city’s family pillars — would have been avoided.

Agaylay kapoy da natan ya man-Operate!

The other mistake – equally gruesome and unpardonable in the eyes of our peace – loving citymates was the criminal attempt to make a mockery of the electoral process.

You know what we are driving at, mga agagui.

That camp who somebody despises as the makers of the city’s Judases shopped around to produce a woman bearing the same name as Belen Fernandez. By what “blessing” from the devil, they succeeded in locating one, a certain Lola Belen Tamondong Fernandez, 66 years old. Perfect! To invalidate the votes for Belen Tan Fernandez.

Having been found, the Katzenjammer kids stampeded to work. They wooed and succeeded in convincing the old woman Belen T. to file her certified of candidacy for mayor. She was even brought to Mayor Benjie Lim himself for “advice,” and the grapevine says she was promised a brand-new house and a tricycle to start a family business. While we were writing this, we couldn’t help laughing and weeping at the same time! For this is the worst, most diabolical act a human being could do to an old woman. Tanga so nan-plano tan, Manny!

Universal human rights advocates condemn this foul if not devilish act! Yesterday, we were informed that the kawawang lola already withdrew her CoC!

End of story. End of story? Nope! This foul, this left-handed, this cruel, this inhuman act of treating an old woman is actionable by human rights leaders worldwide.

Andokey layay article ta amo, Ermin?

Bear with us. We couldn’t bear the mere thought of this abuse on an old woman and on our electoral system!
