Cultural confetti

By Gonzalo Duque

THANK you, Mayor Benjie and the city government for gifting our Rotary Club of Uptown Dagupan with, according to a COA report, P2 million.

Being its charter president, we are so grateful with this benevolent act. We wish to inform that during the presidency of Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez the club was able to receive P500,00 which we have used to civic projects. But we have yet to receive the Pl.5 million balance.

Nayari lan kolektaen? Balbaleg ya salamat.

The local press club felt like it received a downpour of cultural confetti from heaven when it guested three artists from the Performing Arts. They are: Carl Balita of the Carl Balita Review Center, Robert Sena and Isay Alvarez.

Robert and Isay, by the way, did a superb performance at the Ms. Saigon play starring Ms. Lea Salonga. Our sisters in the US saw the play and were very impressed with Robert and Isay.

These artists did very well when they faced the Pangasinan Press Club. After the media date, they sounded us out for a possible staging of a seminar workshop here so that the locals would have the chance to show their wares in their art.

Great idea, mind you. Who knows, it’s not yet late. Maybe, not to become performing artists, but as talent scouts, and as teachers or directors.

Our visitors opined they could come with l3 or more to teach the locals what they have learned internationally.

May we request interested parties to contact Dr. Eugene Reyes or this writer with telephone 09189592009.

In this connection, we are inviting the provincial government to require its artists to attend this proposed seminar. Attention: Prov’l Administrator Raffy Baraan and Marife Panlilio. The duo toured our artists visitors who were so impressed with the Sison auditorium. They felt like they’d want to hold the workshop there. Or perform there. Why not? Tamang tama for Pangasinan Day or on Pista’y Dayat?

It was thought that after the workshop, the participants would have the chance to show their wares.  Isn’t this great? Students will develop their confidence and talents along this line.   Right now, we are so optimistic about it that we are already planning to open at LNU a school for performing artists. How does that sound?

Robert and Isay, just tell if it’s a go, and we’ll do it.

We are saddened by the report that two of our friends, former Vice Mayor Ramon Arcinue and his wife, Barangay Captain Zorahayda Ramos Arcinue were killed by an assassin in front of their son’s apartment in Manila last Thursday evening.

We are urging the authorities to do their job on this. They were already ambushed last year, but the killer or killers missed it. Now, they were able to do it.

Talagan ginetma ma daran pateyen awa? Aralem so rason amo? Please, General Nick Bartolome and Col. Boyet Ricaforte, don’t allow this dastardly killing to remain unsolved.  For his part, we urged Rep. Pol Bataoil, and also Gov. Spines to track down the killer and the mastermind. Pareho kayon top military officers. Agyo pa ya papaolyanan.
