Taiwan, here we come!

By Gonzalo Duque

ON Tuesday, Pangasinan Rotarians and our province-mates will have a grand time with Prof. Jaime T. Licauco, who is coming to treat us to a scholarly talk on the paranormal world, or better, universe.

Now is the time to clear the air regarding these disturbing yarns, rumors, stories and horrific articles, studies and what-have-yous about the vaunted End of the World this year! Ay agki pa mantataktakkot!

We don’t believe it. But mas maong lay narengel ed expert tan scholar non pareil on the subject like Prof. Jimmy whose column “The Inner Mind” in the Daily Inquirer is one of the best read in that paper.

Mr. Licauco has many speaking engagements in Metro Manila, but he has honored our invitation because he considers Pangasinan as a gifted province. He refers to our province as home of the great psychics and spiritualists, with no less than famous psychic surgeons Jun Labo, Alex Orbito and the late Tony Agpaoa as his personal friends.

But he is much, much more than a man with psychic, paranormal and spiritual gifts. Jimmy is a scholar second to none. He was a top graduate of an elite management university, and a much-sought speaker on creative intelligence and the science of the mind.

He will be the guest of honor and speaker of Pangasinan’s Inter City Rotarians. The public is invited. See you all there.

The Pangasinan Press Club’s hour-long interview with MECO Chair Amadito Perez, a very close friend of our father Paco, was very fruitful. He has invited the club to send six stalwarts to a Media-Economic Mission to Taiwan soon to give them a ringside view of Taiwan’s rise as a world economic power and the situation of Filipino workers in that country.

Amadito should be chiefly credited for the dramatic transformation of Urdaneta City into what it is today. Most prosperous, even beating our city of Dagupan in income; the cleanest; with modern infrastructure and a cohesive city officialdom led by his son Mayor Bobom Perez.

If you ask us, it’s that city’s united spirit that shot it to the top. We can’t say the same of Dagupan which is rocked by quarrels, conflicts and counterproductive debates.

Salamat, Kuya Amadito. May your tribe increase.

How about our favorite subject, Dr. Voltaire Arzadon? Maya ni ta nan promisa tayo ya sampot lamay kolum tayo nipaakar ed utang ya agto gabay ya bayaran at the expense of brod Cesar.

It’s time for the court to take over.

But we shall resume the fireworks if after filing the case in court, mantetelek telekan ni!  Ay, agaymet la yan too!
