“IT is safe to visit Pangasinan’s tourist destinations.”

This was assured by Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Ma. Luisa Amor-Elduayan during the Pangasinan in Action media forum on February 26 held at the Urduja House.

It can be recalled that Governor Amado I. Espino III earlier announced postponement of events and other gatherings that draw huge crowds as precautionary measures due to the threats of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

While lined-up activities of the provincial government this February are put on hold, Elduayan guaranteed that the tourism sector is ready to accommodate tourists, noting that the province has still no record of local transmission of the COVID-19.

Per advisory of the Provincial Health Office, Elduayan stressed, events in the province will be postponed until April 15.

However, the provincial government tones down celebrations for the yearly-scheduled big events with fixed dates in the province, such as Agew na Pangasinan and Pista’y Dayat 2020 to assure public safety, Elduayan said.

For the Agew na Pangasinan celebration on April 5th, which falls on Palm Sunday, Elduayan said the provincial government sponsors special thanksgiving mass in all churches across the province and the conduct of a brief program.

“We will have a simple program to be announced after due evaluation and advisory from the Provincial Health Office (PHO),” Elduayan stated.

The Pista’y Dayat celebration will be moved to a later date starting on April 24, Elduayan added.

“We are hosting Philippine Beach Games which will be held at the Lingayen Beachfront,” she also said, stressing that traditional activities for the fisherfolk will still push through on a smaller scale.

“We are preparing for a risk management plan in handling the visit of tourists at the Lingayen Beach especially on May 1,” she further stated.

Elduayan also disclosed that there will be no Limgas na Pangasinan beauty search this year.

Meanwhile, Special Events Chief Marife Acerit said that facilities under the jurisdiction of the provincial government used for public gatherings in the province, such as Sison Auditorium and Pangasinan Training and Development Center, are also temporarily closed.
