PNP-HPG to motorists: Don’t use PNP stickers on your vehicles

MOTORISTS are hereby warned: Remove car tickers that bear PNP-HPG logo or suffer the consequences.

The PNP Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) aired the warning after Oplan Balik Disiplina sa Kalsada (Disiplinadong Driver) campaign launched by police provincial director P/Col. Redrico Maranan and the series of operations conducted already resulted in 10 apprehensions a week, all involving use of illegal use of the PNP-HPG car stickers, in particular.

P/Major Juanito Guinid, HPG provincial chief, said the warning is a reiteration of Maranan for the strict implementation of the campaign.

“The provincial director (Maranan) is very serious about instilling discipline among motorists. Improper (illegal) use of our stickers for their own gain, para makatakas sa mga checkpoint o mapabilis ang biyahe ay hindi po tanda ng disiplina. Kailangang ayusin po ito”, said Guinid.

Apprehended motorists were issued tickets, along with the removal of the car stickers on the spot.

Guinid warned motorists that use of government agency stickers of which they are not part of is a violation of the Articles 177 and 179 of the Revised Penal Code, namely:  “Usurpation of authority or official functions”, and “Illegal use of uniform or insignia”, from which they may suffer the penalty of prision mayor.

“Prision mayor can take up to six years and one day up to 12 years, depending on the court decision”, Guinid added. “Aside from imprisonment, the violator would also pay large sums of money as fine,” he added.

Guinid said Oplan Balik Disiplina sa Kalsada will continue to be strictly implemented and observed.

“With today’s technology, stickers can be easily replicated. But we will not stop until everyone learns that illegal use of HPG’s name is prohibited”, he said. (Ahikam Pasion)
