Pangasinense tops mining engineer licensure exam

DETERMINED TO LAND IN TOP 12

LOTS of prayers, hard work and determination prepared a Pangasinense who topped the August 2019 mining engineer licensure examination.

Rachel Penuliar, NO. 1

Rachel Angela Penuliar Ferrer, 22, a proud Pangasinense who studied at the University of the Philippines-Diliman, got a 91.20% rating among the 310 passers out of the 375 examinees.

Although she dreamed to be one of the topnotchers, but she said she did not expect to be number one.

Rachel was in their house in Bulacan when she learned the good news from a friend, her parents and siblings were wondering why she was rejoicing.

“I was really determined in my studies. I would even spend 16 hours reviewing,” she said.

Unlike other examinees who reviewed for the licensure examination in a review center, Rachel reviewed and prepared on her own.

“I liked it that way because I felt that I could study better being on my own. That’s my study habit ever since. I always do validation when I go home from school. I look for other sources of reading materials,” she said.

She said every time she would take an examination, she would pray and recite her favorite Bible verses.

“I offer everything first to God,” she said.

Rachel, whose mom is a housekeeper while her dad, Mariano Jr., is a pastor of a born-again Christian church, plans to look for a job first and pursue her a master’s degree later.

She said she prefers to serve in government before considering a job in a private company although she said learned a lot in Philex Mining Corp. where she had her on-the-job-training.

Rachel and her parents and siblings visit Pangasinan once or twice monthly for a bonding with their relatives in Dagupan City and Mapandan town. (PhilStar Wire Service)
