LINGAYEN—There are more drug pushers being arrested by the police in Pangasinan than users, records of the Police Provincial Office (PPO) show.

P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, police provincial director, said 75 percent of more than 200 persons arrested by the police from May 28 to July 28 this year, are drug pushers while 25 percent are drug users.

“We are concentrating on the drug pushers,” Maranan added.

The suspects were arrested in drug buy-bust operations while others, especially the high-value targets, were arrested through the service of search warrants at their respective residences and in most cases.

Meanwhile, Maranan announced that the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) being conducted by the police among Grades V and VI pupils now includes awareness on the evils of terrorism to counter influence of New People’s Army-National Democratic Front and the Communist Party of the Philippines who are actively recruiting students.

He said police data shows that the main source of recruitment of the rebel groups is the youth sector that is why the “Kontra Droga at Kontra Terorismo” was launched.

He added that the youth are the most vulnerable targets of both drugs syndicates and rebels.

The DARE program is sanctioned by the Department of Education and is supposed to be taught in schools for a total of 17 hours. (Leonardo Micua)
