BUGALLON –  More than five motorcycle owners were cited by the town’s police for violating Muffler Act of 2016 and impounded  their motorcycles.

P/ Sr. Master Sergeant Dick Soriano, OIC at the Bugallon Police Station said the campaign against loud noisy mufflers of motorcycles started last week with as part of the Opln Sita in barangays.

Soriano said the impounded  motorcycles will only be released to the owners if they present the acceptable muffler to replace the loud muffler to the police station.

In relation to this, the which was first introduced by Senator Win Gatchalian, aims to prohibit motorcycles and other vehicles—both in the public and private sector—that make use of muffler modifications to increase the noise output of their engines.

Muffler Act of 2016 specifies that the sound from the muffler must not exceed 70 decibels, and whoever exceeds this limit would  be penalized. Only vehicles used for sports and auto shows will be exempted.

The residents of this town expressed their support to this move by the PNP.

(Melody Valenton)
