Lingayen backs DOH’s ‘Back to Bakuna’ campaign

LINGAYEN – Measles cases in the province have been dramatically and alarmingly increasing.

This is the assessment of the Provincial Health Office citing the 637% or 1,298 cases of measles with 9 deaths from January to July this year is a lot more in contrast with the records from the previous year on the same period with only 176 cases and 1 death.

Lingayen, reported to have 86 cases, is the third town on PHO’s watchlist among the top 12 cities/municipalities with measles next to Dagupan City 168 and San Carlos City with 113.

The town’s mayor, Leopoldo N. Bataoil, and members of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) joined the kick-off activity, endorsing the school-based immunization campaign and stressed that children, should be allowed by their parents to receive vaccination.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Pangasinan 1 has expressed support for  the Department of Health in their relaunching of ‘Back to bakuna’ at Magsaysay Elementary School in Barangay Poblacion on August 9.

The town’s officials were joined by representatives from DOH-Region 1, Provincial Health Office, and the town’s Rural Health Units 1 and 2.

Kindergarten pupils up to grade 7 students are mandated receive vaccination for measles, students in grades 1 to 7 for tetanus diptheria, and grade 4 female students HPV or Human Papilloma Virus.

The Rural Health Units will spearhead the continuation of the program in different elementary schools here until September according to their scheduled immunization dates. (Melody Valenton)
