Ex-Kapitan shot by riding in tandem

BUGALLON – Elly Ancheta, 67 years old and former chairperson of Barangay Polong, survived an ambush by unidentified gunmen riding in tandem while riding his motorcycle along the national highway of Barangay Bañaga. 

According to P/ Major Amor Mio Somine, Bugallon police chief, initial investigation showed the incident which happened at about 5:40 p.m. of August 10, when Ancheta was riding his motorcycle with a back rider, Rommel Manaoat, 36, and the gunmen overtook him and shot him in the face. The suspects immediately fled after the victim fell. Manaoat was not harmed.

Barangay officials of Bañaga who rushed to the scene brought him initially to Jesus Nazarene Hospital in Lingayen for treatment and was later transferred later to a hospital in Dagupan City for continued treatment.

CCTV footages in the area are being reviewed by the police.

Somine said they are still determining the most possible motive but he ruled out politics despite the fact that the victim is a former government official. (Melody Valenton)
