AS of last, forty percent of the sidewalks, mainly at the central business district in Dagupan City, has been cleared.

This was bared by Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) chief Robert Christopher Erfe-Mejia in an interview Tuesday afternoon.

As of last week, Erfe-Mejia said the initial focus of the clearing operations has been the central business district but parallel streets and sidewalks in outer barangays will be targeted next.

Erfe-Mejia urged establishment owners to conduct their own “self-clearing” of sidewalks.

“Business owners also have a responsibility in keeping our sidewalks clean and clear, and the President said it is everyone’s obligation to comply in their own way”, said Erfe-Mejia who gave the assurance that the clearing operations will continue until all Dagupan streets are completely rid of obstruction.

Meanwhile, owners of some  200 motorcycles with modified mufflers have cited for violation of the city ordinance..

Erfe-Mejia said that in accordance with the city ordinance No. 2122-2018, modified mufflers – noisy exhaust pipes to be exact, are prohibited in the city.

He said violators of other traffic rules and ordinances are being apprehended.

So far, there are already more than 50 motorcycles impounded in the POSO office as a result of of POSO’s relentless campaign against undisciplined motorcycle riders that include not wearing of helmet, expired licenses, and driving without license. (Ahikam Pasion)
