LINGAYEN—The vice governor here has urged his colleagues in the 10th Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial board) of Pangasinan and the leadership of the province to revisit the laws and policies that would ease the burden of doing business here as its major agenda.

“At a time when our fellow Pangasinenses are looking forward to reforms, changes and better economic and social conditions, we must hit the ground running, acting purposively and urgently,” Vice Gov. Mark Ronald Lambino told the board members on their first regular session.

He exhorted board members on July 8 to match the expectation of the people “by passing resolutions and ordinances that would ease the social and economic burden of our province”.

“Let us create policies that would generate more employment and opportunities through a stable and healthy business environment,” the vice governor said as he pointed out that while competition must be encouraged, government should seek to “protect smaller businesses from being swallowed by larger industries.”

He called on the provincial board members and the leadership of the province to create more economic centers in the province, most especially in the rural areas as he exhorted his colleagues to pass meaningful and actionable reforms that will eliminate corruption entirely.  “The society that tolerates it will continue to decline,” he said.

While Lambino belongs to the opposing political party, he reiterated that that his party will be Gov. Amado Espino III’s ally: “Let the provincial interest be our agenda.”

He urged his colleagues to “debate issues with passion, share knowledge and experiences, highlight views and ideals but conduct ourselves with civility and an open mind which this chamber deserves”.

He, however, warned those “who incite discord and separation among the board members to  “think twice and think hard,”

The board members are Donnabel Fontelera and Orange Humilde-Versoza (1st District), Von Mark Mendoza and Nestor Reyes( 2nd D.), Angel Baniqued Jr. and Vici Ventanilla (3rd D.), Jeremy Agerico Rosario and Liberato Villegas (4th D.), Rosary Gracia Perez-Tababa and Nicholi Jan Louie Sison (5th D.), and Noel Bince and Salvador Perez Jr (6th D.).

They were also joined by the representative of Sheila Marie Perez-Galica (Councilors League), Jerome Espino (Youth) and Jose Peralta (Liga ng mga Barangay).

In parting, he said “We are all leaders, but we are also servants of the people, whose primary interest is to provide for their well-being.” (PhilStar Wire Service)
