STA. BARBARA–The municipal government will stockpile medicines and put the town’s Rescue Volunteers on 24/7 alert this rainy season knowing that Sta. Barbara gets flooded every time the Sinocalan River overflows its banks.

This was assured by Mayor Joel de los Santos who also vowed to boost the funding of the Rural Health Units so that it can buy medicines that would be needed by the people when the floods hit.

De los Santos has undertaken steps to strengthen the town’s Rescue Volunteers, which he intends to put under 24/7 alert, along with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to be able to respond to any kind of emergencies.

The municipal government has also strengthened its flood mitigation program along dikes.

He called on the MDRRMO to intensify training of barangay officials and residents to ensure orderly evacuation in case of higher floods.

On health, he has intensified Operation “Takobets” in the barangays to ensure that every family has operational water-sealed toilets, as some residents do not have this facility in their homes yet. (Leonardo Micua)
