BUGALLON — Residents of Sitio Nalbagan, Barangay Umanday bade goodbye to darkness which has been their old friend, after two solar-powered street lights were installed by the barangay council on Thursday.

For decades, Nalbagan residents walked through dark corners and the street every night. They admitted they only managed it by accomplishing all tasks during the daytime, to avoid having to walk through darkness.

“Diad anduk-dukey ya panaon, natan labat ya nagawa… natan labat nakargaan na silew diad loob ya Nalbagan katon misal-salamat kamid ki nen Kap,” said Nana Mameng, 93, the oldest resident of the sitio.

“Marakep tan ya agawa. Aliwa lan ambil-bilunget no labi. Salamat ed saray nan-project ya,” said Ramon, 52.

The Umanday Barangay Council led by Fernando V. Orduña, barangay captain, has been encouraged by the positive feedback from their constituents. (Melody Valenton)
