WESTERN PANGASINAN STOCK

THE National Food Authority (NFA) has some 189,000 sacks of rice in its warehouses, enough to supply the province’s requirements.

This was the assurance made by Chona Maramba, assistant provincial manager- NFA Western Pangasinan and these will be distributed to NFA accredited retail outlets in the area.

The projection is based on validated daily consumption requirement of 13,380 bags in Western Pangasinan so NFA rice is always available at 225 inside market retail stores and 105 outside market retail stores at P27 per kilo.

Maramba said the current stock is part of the NFA’s rice allocation of 500,000 bags for 2019 and is sufficient until the end of the year.

In addition, she said NFA rice will be available for 30 days in case of a calamity.

Maramba pointed out that there is an abundant supply and NFA continues to buy palay from local farmers.

The NFA now buys P20.40 per kilo of class A rice and P19 per kilo of class B.

Meanwhile, NFA’s monitoring team is on guard against unscrupulous retailers who create artificial shortage. (Nora Dominguez)
