Netizens express support for mandatory ROTC

AFTER the House of Representatives approved House Bill 8961, with 167-4 votes for the restoration of the mandatory Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) for grades 11 and 12 in public and private schools nationwide, an informal survey by PUNCH reporter Melody Valenton on Facebook showed students in favor its restoration.

On a Facebook poll question: Are you favor or not of the revival of the mandatory ROTC for the SHS, 73% of the 24 who responded voted ‘yes’, and 27% answered ‘no’.

When asked in a follow-up interview, John Ren Tabor, 19, from Dagupan said ROTC should be voluntary and not mandatory. “Merong may gusto nito, merong may ayaw.

Nikko Andrew Gautane, 20, from San Carlos who gave a negative vote, said  “kasi sa pagkakaalam ko ngayon, ’yong ROTC ‘di ba mahirap?

For Patrick Lomibao, 20, from Calasiao it’s good that this is revived. Natuturuan sila ng disiplina at interest about protecting the interest of the nation.”

(Melody Valenton)
