SINCE its launching on January 26,  Kalinisan Karaban, the “plastic for goods” program of the provincial government, has become a positive tool for promotion of proper management of solid wastes in communities.

On July 15, teachers and students from the different elementary and high schools, senior citizens, in Bugallown town gathered at the Prof. Amado Espino Sr. Multi-purpose Gymnasium to deliver plastic materials such as cups, spoon and fork, sachets of shampoo, bottles, sando bags, styrofoams, and scrap papers to exchange with school supplies, grocery items and cell loads.

Jose Antonio Toledo, a teacher at Irene Rayos Ombac National High School accompanied his students to the event and handed over the plastic wastes they collected in their school to the team in exchange for goods. He said the program helps instilled discipline and awareness of the benefits of Kalinisan Karaban.

Mayor Priscilla “Mely” Espino expressed her support to the provincial government’s advocacy to create higher awareness for proper solid waste disposal to prevent spread of diseases and urged Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation officials to adopt it as a priority program in their respective barangays.
