Governor Espino distributes 51.1-T fruit and forest tree seedlings

GOVERNOR Amado I. Espino, III distributed anew about 51,100 pieces of assorted fruit-bearing and forest tree seedlings to irrigators and farmers associations, organizations and various schools in the province.
“Ituloy po sana natin ang pangangalaga natin sa ating kalikasan,” he urged during the distribution program held at the Provincial Agriculture Office field station in Sta. Barbara.
A continuing program of the administration, Governor Espino said that this activity is in support to the reforestation project of the provincial government as well as food production.
Urging Pangasinenses to take their stance in environmental protection, the provincial chief executive likewise asked the recipient to propagate the seedlings they received from the provincial government.
“Magkakasama po tayo na alagaan hindi lang ang ating kalikasan kung hindi pati na rin ang ating way of life,” he said
Governor Espino also disclosed that the provincial government aims to further expand its reforestation efforts by adopting more idle lands for possible reforestation areas.
“We are coordinating with national government agencies, particularly to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to save possible reforestation areas in the province and turn them over to our local government units and other non-government organizations,” he added noting that this will also open for another source of income for some Pangasinenses.
Governor Espino was assisted by Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Liberato Z. Villegas who chairs the committee on agriculture, Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay A. Moya and Asst. Provincial Agriculturist Nestor A. Batalla in handing over the seedlings to the 261 beneficiaries.
Moya said that the provincial government targets to distribute about 77,000 assorted fruit and forest tree seedlings this year in addition to the previous distributions held since 2016 to 2018, which totaled to about 634,748 seedlings.
The provincial agriculturist also disclosed that the provincial government is urging all beneficiaries seedlings distribution to produce seeds and donate them to the OPAg as a contribution to the tree propagation of the provincial government.
The 261 recipient groups were composed of farmers and irrigators associations, public school teachers, barangay officials, NGOs and some religious groups. These include: Sual, Alaminos City and Mabini (1st district) – 4,800 seedlings; Aguilar, Binmaley, Basista, Bugallon, Lingayen, Labrador, Mangatarem and Urbiztondo (2nd district) – 12,050 seedlings; Bayambang, Malasiqui, Calasiao, Mapandan, San Carlos and Sta. Barbara (3rd district) – 5,100 seedlings; Manaoag, San Jacinto, Dagupan City, Mangaldan and San Fabian (4th district) – 14,750 seedlings; Urdaneta City, Sison, Pozorrubio, Bautista and Sto, Tomas (5th district) – 9,450 seedlings; and Tayug, Asingan, Balungao, Umingan, San Manuel and Natividad (6th district) – 4,950 seedlings. /Shiella Mae C.
