CALASIAO – After relatively unscathed by Tropical Storm Falcon, the town’s local government is gearing up for more rains and possible flooding from habagat.

Kristine Joy Soriano, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office spokesperson for the said barangays have already been alerted to prepare for more efficient disaster response efficiency in weeks ahead.

Soriano said Mayor Joseph Arman Bauzon had issued a memo to town employees and barangays to prepare for the expected rains and floodwaters that started with the cleaning and clearing of drainage, canals and catch basins.

As monitoring continues, the water level in Marusay River, aided by the town’s floodwater monitoring system installed, remains normal at 3.6 feet above normal level (ANL).

MDRRMO continues to monitor four low lying areas near the river: Sitio Subdivision in Barangay Lumbang, Sitio Carosucan in Barangay Longos, and Barangays Talibaew and San Vicente.

Facilities for Calasiao Sports Complex and the Regional Evacuation Center as evacuation centers have been prepared to serve more than 2,000 persons.

“We are currently on blue alert status, all personnel are on standby”, said Soriano and

urged residents to stay alert and to regularly check on weather updates.

“Go bags should also be prepared, including first aid kits, water and food supplies”, she added.

Last 2018, all 24 barangays in the town were submerged due to continuous rains brought by habagat. (Ahikam Pasion)
