TO help minimize flooding in Lingayen, a clean-up drive and unclogging operation was conducted in Poblacion area in Lingayen.

After the flag ceremony last Monday, Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil led the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH), Lingayen Bantay Kalikasan and Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) in cleaning and unclogging canals in front of the Public Plaza, Municipal Hall and along the stretch of the fast food chains.
Bataoil said the area is susceptible to flooding even with little volume of rain because the canals are blocked with plastic wastes and "sebo."
He added that the ongoing development of the Jose Creek will improve the flow of rain water and ease the flooding problem in Libsong East, Libsong West and Poblacion area.
The protection dike along San Jose creek will also serves as a jogging area and biking area.
He said residents must be aware of this in order to have an effective cleanliness drive in the town and help promote tourism in the capital town.
The conversion of the old sanitary landfill into an ecotourist park will also be studied as a tourist site.
The mayor asked municipal employees to help reduce impact of climate change in the town and distributed seeds for planting around their homes. (Nora Domnguez)
