LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The Provincial Government of Pangasinan hosted the debut of Jiu Jitsu Open North Luzon Championships held on June 16 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) Gymnasium.

Provincial Sports Development and Management Council (PSDMC) Executive Director Modesto M. Operania said that the provincial government under the leadership of Governor Amado I. Espino, III strongly supports sports activities that form holistic wellness of the youth.

Disclosing some sports development thrusts initiated by Governor Espino, Operania urged the athletes to remember three things in every competition – respect, discipline and honor.

“Kung gusto mong maging kampeon, dapat meron kang disiplina at respeto sa lahat ng kasamahan mo at sa mga game officials,” Operania stated.

As such, the PSDMC executive director assured that the provincial government will backstop future activities of the Jiu Jitsu Federation of the Philippines (JJFP) – Pangasinan Chapter.

“We will recommend to our good governor na magdaos ulit ng ganitong sports activity,” Operania stated.

The staging of the jiu jitsu was organized by the JJFP – Pangasinan Chapter in partnerhip with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Harold Lising, PDEA Chief of Reformation/ Rehabilitation, said that the PDEA recognizes sports as an effective way to divert one’s mind away from illegal drugs.

“It is with great conviction that PDEA congratulates JJFP – Pangasinan Chapter for not taking themselves in the use of illegal drugs and for establishing this sports competition which fosters healthy rivalry,” Lising remarked. /Shiella Mae C. De Guzman
