Dagupan PNP gets high-powered guns

THE Dagupan City Mayor Belen T. Fernandez turned over 14 high-powered rifles to the Dagupan City Police Station (DCPS) in a simple ceremony at the police station on June 24.

The rifles, bought by the city government were received by new DCPS chief, P/Lt. Col. Abubakar Mangelen, Jr., in a ceremony witnessed by Vice Mayor-elect Dean Bryan Kua, Councilor Luis “Chito” Samson, Jr., P/Major Rizalino Suarez and other PNP officials.

Mangelen said the new M4 rifles will be issued to the city’s SWAT team and the old rifles previously issued to them will be transferred to different police substations.

While we are ready for any eventualities, we are also boosting the capabilities of our forces in preventing crimes, Mangelen said.

The city government has so far donated 13 vehicles to the police for patrol operations in the barangays.

Fernandez also bared that the city has allocated a budget of P11 million this year in support of all the activities of the PNP Dagupan.

Among the activities is the ‘Bantay Kaabay’ program that trains barangay tanods in helping prevent crimes. (CIO/VDV)
