OPPOSITION senatorial candidate Samira Gutoc expressed apprehension over the plan of Facebook to introduce a dating application for its users in the Philippines.

“What I fear is trafficking, a Filipina being used to go abroad and something bad will happen to women or children with the use of the internet,” Gutoc told local newsmen on May 2 in an interview in Dagupan City.

She cited child pornography where cases have increased by 2,000 in barely three years, as well as other online crimes.

“Yes we have online, there are many successful marriages online. I just fear that foreigners who do not understand our culture that must be respected, the actual appearance to our mother and father, the physical acquaintance, we have to go back to that (sic),” she added.

So tinokhang mo ang drugs, hindi mo tinokhang ang kalaswaan,” she said alluding to the Duterte administration.  She added she opposes tokhang in drug war “because you did not strengthen family relations”.

She laughed when she admitted that she is a product of a failed dating app and met people through other friends. “It doesn’t last. There must be family bonding to make a person understand our culture,” she said. (PhilStar Wire Service)
