Gastroenteritis claims 19 deaths

LINGAYEN—Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) has claimed 19 lives and 3,614 fell ill in Pangasinan since January based on the Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) report of the Provincial Health Office here as of April 29.

A report prepared by Rodhalia Binay-an, PESU nurse coordinator, showed the following towns had one victim each: Aguilar, Mapandan, San Carlos City and Binalonan; two each in Malasiqui, Mangaldan, San Fabian and Manaoag; three in Binmaley and four in Dagupan City.

There were 3,614 AGE cases or an increase of 33 percent of AGE cases compared to the same period in 2018.

In 2018, there were 16 deaths due to AGE in Pangasinan with 2,711 cases.

There were 1,223 AGE cases involving male aged 1 to 4 and 913 female cases of the same age bracket that comprises the bulk of patients afflicted with this disease.

Placed under watchlist for AGE cases are San Carlos City with 297 cases, Mangaldan (277), Bayambang (234), Calasiao (187), Alaminos City (179), San Fabian (172), Binmaley (165, Lingayen (147), Malasiqui (144) and Mapandan (96).(PhilStar Wire Service)
