Bong Go: I’ll support agenda for fishing industry, agri

LINGAYEN– Pangasinan’s adopted son, former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on Wednesday pledged to support and promote concerns of the fishing and agriculture industry when he made the rounds in the province.

He was in Pangasinan last week also to join Pangasinenses in celebrating “Pista’y Dayat” upon the invitation of leaders of the province.

Go acknowledged that Pangasinan is a major fish supplier in Luzon that has extensive fishponds, mostly raising “bangus” or milkfish.

Go is proposing improved access of fishermen and farmers to low-interest credit under streamlined process, fishery or farming inputs, as well as machinery and equipment to support their livelihood and help them avoid falling into a debt trap.

Go added he decided to run for a seat in the senate to support the programs and policies of President Rodrigo Duterte, particularly the campaign against illegal drugs, criminality and corruption.

Likewise, he said he is committed to back  the implementation of infrastructure and other development projects under the “Build, Build, Build” program, including those that would help in the progress of Pangasinan and nearby provinces in the region.

He cited support needed for the Lower Agno River Irrigation System Extension that calls for the construction of new canals and rehabilitation of existing irrigation facilities to improve water supply for agriculture and improve productivity in the area. The notice to proceed for the project was issued in August last year.

He said he will see to the implementation of the P451-million farm-to-market roads in the province as well.

Go happily noted that many fellow Pangasinenses are already benefitting from the services of the Malasakit Center established in Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City.

A program of the Duterte administration based on Go’s idea, the Malasakit Center streamlines the process of securing medical and financial assistance from the government by bringing together in one room concerned agencies such as the DOH, DSWD, PCSO and PhilHealth.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Pangasinan passed a resolution, signed by Governor Amado Espino III, declaring Go as an adopted son of the province on December 18, 2018. (Leonardo Micua)
