LINGAYEN—Team Pangasinan won third place in the Batang Pinoy (BP) – Luzon Leg held on March 16-23 in Ilagan City, Isabela, amassing 73 medals in its 2019 edition: 23 gold, 24 silver, and 26 bronze medals.

Provincial Sports Development and Management Council (PSDMC) Executive Officer Modesto Operania attributed the impressive performance of Team Pangasinan to the competitive selection process of athletes, and continuous training provided by the provincial administration.

He said after the selection process, Governor Amado Espino III directed support for the conditioning and training environment to prepare them for the BP Luzon Leg, and national championships.”

Prior to the 2019 BP – Luzon Leg, the provincial government hosted the athletes to a week-long in-house conditioning and training program held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center on February 12-18.

The seven-day training organized by the PSDMC was on top of the in-house training provided by the Pangasinan Sports Academy.

Operania said the province started joining in the BP – Luzon Leg, and national finals since 2011 under the watch of former Gov. and now 5th District Rep. Amado T. Espino, Jr.

Since then, Team Pangasinan has maintained its high  ranking in the annual youth games.

In the previous (2018) BP national games, Team Pangasinan ranked 5th with 71 podium finish (24 gold, 23 silver, and 24 bronze medals) in a field of more than 100 participating contingents.
