Report vote-buying – Comelec

COMMISSION on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Luie Tito Guia asked voters in Pangasinan to report vote-buying activities to the Comelec.

Guia made the plea as he expressed dismay that Pangasinan is getting notorious for the rampant vote-buying in the province.

He urged voters to report vote-buying to the police and warned that penalty for vote buying is one to six years imprisonment without probation.

He said preparations for the elections are in full swing, adding that  the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines all meeting regularly with Comelec to make sure that the elections will be peaceful and orderly.

The poll commissioner also appealed to help protect the integrity of the electoral process, pointing out that the advent of social media and technology makes tsismis (gossip) or falsehood a bad commodity for politics and it makes it easier to spread lies.

When netizens share wrong information, he said they help spread falsity, citing the false accusations about the technology used for the election. (PhilStar Wire Service)
