MANAOAG–Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia inaugurated on April 11 the newly-built Rice Processing Complex in Barangay Oraan Este here.

The project, supported by the Department of Agriculture, will process palay produced by farmers promising them bigger grains recovery, boosting their production as well as income.

De Venecia, who initiated the project to help uplift the life of farmers and their families, personally ensured that the project will materialize with constant follow-up with the DA central office in Manila until funding was released.

“We were faced with many challenges in getting this program to the table—from finding a donor for the land (where  the project will stand), navigating the bureaucracy and filing the necessary papers,” De Venecia said.

He said there were countless training activities that had to be organized for members of the cooperative tasked to operate the system.

He noted that the farmer members of the cooperative who trained also learned how to craft a business plan.

While the cooperative will manage and operate the project, the farmer members of the coop must learn to use it for their harvested crops alternately.

An elated Congressman De Venecia said: “We held space, we didn’t give up, we fought, and so we are happy and proud that the facility is finally up and running.

The project, he said, will improve the earnings of farmer members and “provide restorative justice to the true heroes of the country.”
