PANGASINAN policemen are now gearing up for the Ligtas Summer Vacation (SumVac) to ensure the safety of Pangasinenses and motorists during this period.

P/Captain Ria Tacderan, public information officer of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, told Tuntungan Forum of the Philippine Information Agency that efforts will be intensified to prevent criminals from exploiting the summer and vacation period.

Tacderan said the police are already busy securing barangay fiestas, peacekeeping in political rallies, ensuring smooth traffic flow, among others.

She added that vacationists flock to Pangasinan beaches and for pilgrimage to various old churches for the Holy Week.

To avoid being victims of criminals, she advised vacationists 1) to avoid bringing their jewelry to the beach or church, 2) to ask a neighbor to look over their house when they go on a vacation, 3) to avoid posting their photos on social media during their holiday break and 4) to know the contact numbers of police station of their destination.

For her part, Avenix Arenas, spokesperson of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, told the same forum that they are aiming for zero drowning incidents in Pangasinan beaches.

Last year, six persons drowned in beaches and rivers during the summer.

“Hopefully this year, there will be none,” Arenas said.

She also cautioned beachgoers about jellyfish sting and to be reminded about first aid measures during jellyfish attack.

Lifeguards are also available, especially in Lingayen beach, Arenas said, and urged resort owners to train their personnel on water search and rescue operations to assist their guests, especially during emergency situations. (PhilStar Wire Service)
