CDV hails US$1 billion  investment in San Fabian

FOURTH District Rep. Christopher de Venecia welcomed the planned US$1 billion investment by the giant business conglomerate San Miguel Corporation (SMC) in San Fabian town.

The same sentiment was shared by Gov. Amado Espino III in his 2019 State of the Province Address on March 28 before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

In his address, Espino said he talked to Ramon Ang, president and chief operating officer of SMC and based on their talk, San Miguel will put up one billion dollar worth of investment in San Fabian.

In a talk to newsmen, De Venecia revealed the billion dollar investment will be set in Barangay Bolasi in San Fabian which still has many lands available for such a big project.

Although he was involved in the negotiation, with San Miguel over the project, he said he is not privy its details.

“My only request in behalf of my constituents is if it will take in workers soon, the people of San Fabian and the rest of the fourth district of Pangasinan must be given the top priority in employment.” De Venecia said.

He said that if the project is going to be located near the sea, it should be environmentally compliant and will not pollute the sea, recalling what happened before to Boracay.

“So, we should not let the project reach that stage if ever it is situated near the sea as San Fabian is a tourist town whose biggest lure is its beaches and the sea,” De Venecia added.

Although the project will bring tremendous opportunities, such as commerce, social assistance, jobs and income, it should not be made at the expense of the environment, he said.

He said not only the people of San Fabian and the rest of the fourth district of Pangasinan will benefit from this huge project but the people of the entire province.

De Venecia imagined the huge taxes that this project will give to the coffers of San Fabian and the province and the domino effect that it will bring to the economy.

“Can you imagine the number of jobs and the huge income that it can give? It is about time that LGUs, like San Fabian should not always depend on Internal Revenue Allotments,” he stressed.

The huge San Miguel investment in San Fabian is also expected to benefit its neighbors, like Dagupan City, Mangaldan, San Jacinto and Manaoag and as far as Pozorrubio town in the sixth district.  (Leonardo Micua)
