Team Pangasinan off to Batang Pinoy Luzon Leg

TEAM Pangasinan’s 338-man delegation was officially sent off by the provincial government to the Batang Pinoy 2019 Luzon Leg in Ilagan City, Isabela from March 16-23 during brief ceremony at the NRSCC restaurant in Lingayen on  March 12. 

Gov. Amado Espino III who led officials of the Pangasinan Sports Development and Management Council (PSDMC) during the send-off ceremony, expressed confidence that the team will perform creditably this year.

PSDMC Asst. Executive Director Marlon Domalanta, urged the 253 athletes, 61 coaches and 24 officials to represent the province with pride and imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie and respect for their competitors.

The team will compete in archery, arnis, athletics, basketball (boys), basketball (girls), badminton, boxing, chess, dance sports, karatedo, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis 8, taekwondo, tennis (lawn), beach volleyball (boys), beach volleyball (girls), indoor volleyball (boys), and indoor volleyball (girls).

The athletes and players of Team Pangasinan were selected from provincial eliminations held on January 17-20 at the NRSCC, out of 3,000 athletes from DepEd Pangasinan I, Pangasinan 2, Alaminos City, San Carlos City and Urdaneta City.

Team Pangasinan ranked 5th in the last Batang Pinoy National Championships participated in by over 100 LGUs nationwide. Team Pangasinan hauled 71 medals (24 gold medals, 23 silver and 24 bronze medals).

Batang Pinoy is a grassroots-based sports activity of the Philippine Sports Commission that aims to expand its base for selection of athletes with potentials for national and international sports competitions. (PIO/SMDG)
