Lingayen, Bayambang and Tayug win

LINGAYEN–Lingayen, Bayambang and Tayug carried clinched their coveted wins on the first day of quarterfinals under Group A of the 3rd Governor’s Cup Inter-Town/City basketball tournament held at Aguilar Gymnasium on February 23.

Second season’s defending champion, Team Lingayen, spearheaded by Marven Jophet Mamaril, proved its supremacy anew by effectively pushing back its nemesis, Team Aguilar, 116-107.

Despite Aguilar’s aggressive offense, Lingayen dominated and finished the first quarter with four-point advantage, 27-23. The lead continued to add up as high as 15 points with 2 minutes left in the second quarter, 60-45. Aguilar managed to close the lead to three points at the end of the third quarter, 83-80. 

In the end, Team Lingayen sustained their momentum and clobbered Aguilar an 11-point advantage.

Tayug cagers trounced the equally-strong players of Calasiao 114-106 in a high scoring game with an overtime to boot. Though Calasiao ruled in the first and 2nd quarters 46-41. Tayug powered up in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

The first deadlock was posted, 73-73, and the last deadlock 90-90 led to an overtime. But Tayug proved too strong  and eventually outplayed Calasiao.

Bayambang subdued Mangaldan in a close match, 110-102. Bayambang showed off its prowess as early as the first quarter and never looked back. It set the pace throughout the game with their sustained speed and endurance. (PIO/SMDG)
