MAYOR Belen Fernandez enumerated various gains made by her administration to improve the life of the people, particularly the young ones, when she addressed officers and members of the Dagupan City Club of Southern California (DCCSC) as their guest of honor and speaker during their induction ceremonies at Mariott Hotel in California on February 11.

Taking time out from her busy schedule in Dagupan City, Mayor Fernandez lauded the group, which adopted the theme Life is a journey of caring and sharing” during their induction program.

“My journey here is particularly important because I cannot say no to dear friends from Dagupan City Club of Southern California. Coming here is like coming home to your family. I really feel I am home,” Fernandez stressed.

But she said there is one journey “that is special to my heart”, adding that this is the journey of serving for our beloved City of Dagupan.

Fernandez said this is particularly important because it is a “journey of sharing and caring,” especially for the vulnerable sectors of Dagupan: the children, women and the elderly, the marginalized poor.

The mayor said the city’s relentless efforts to give the young a decent life with a lot of care and comforts paid off when Dagupan City was declared the Most Child-Friendly City last year and presented the Presidential Seal of Child-Friendly Cities by President Duterte.

“Yes, we score victories for a community that celebrates every step now that we endeavored to achieve for our children,” she said.

The mayor said when Dagupan achieved these victories — no matter how small — “we know this translates into something good, or even better, for every child in our city”.

At the same time, the mayor said Dagupan is currently at the crossroad of its biggest socio-economic and physical transformation since the 1990 earthquake that almost reduced our city to rubble.

She said the city’s  great investments in practically all aspect of endeavor  is intended to make  Dagupan the safest, most peaceful, happiest and healthiest city in the Philippines, adding that the honor of being bestowed the title as the Most Child-Friendly City is just a premium.

“All of these did not start when I was elected Mayor six years ago. It dates back even before I was in the private sector. I went to serve our public schools and day care centers.” she added. “I love serving and working for our children. It may sound trite but I really do believe the only way to win the future is to win it today for our children,” she added..

She said Dagupan today is caught in a whirlwind of public infrastructure developments that are meant to benefit children., citing the schools, libraries ,port facilities, trainings, roads and bridges, health programs, support for music arts and culture and a lot more that were under taken.

Dagupan today, the mayor said, is the first one billion peso economy in Region 1 and is  throwing the whole weight of government and every cent to make sure today’s children benefit from a bright future they rightfully deserve.

My life’s journey is a journey of caring and sharing— I treat each child as my own. Not only is Dagupan my family, every child also my own. I have received the warmth, care, and love of my own family.

She admitted she comes home to her own mother every day until today “to let her know how grateful I am because she was both selfless and unselfish”.

“The next three years I still envision of pursuing this journey for Dagupan, and I am doing this with all my heart. I am ready to serve, I am ready to care, I am ready to share,” she added.

Fernandez officiated the oath of office of  officers and members of DCCSC headed by  2019 President King Dicimulacion.
