Manaoag’s No. 1 drug personality arrested
THE No. 1 drug personality of Manaoag town was arrested after a car chase in Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City by the police.
The suspect, George Reyes, 38, of
Barangay Babasit, Manaoag, tried to elude the police that were out to arrest
him by speeding off in a car but eventually
failed after his car figured in a head-on collision with another vehicle
at 12:50 p.m. on January 29.
Reyes was about to sell two sachets of shabu to an undercover police operative
of the Manaoag Police Station and when he realized it was an entrapment, pulled
his gun and fired shots at the policemen about to arrest him, prompting the
latter to retaliate.
No one was hurt in the shooting exchange and Reyes managed to board his Honda
CRV with Plate No. CEB-334 and sped towards the town of San Jacinto and Dagupan
City.
The Manaoag Police promptly conducted a hot pursuit operation to trace him.
On reaching the provincial road in Bonuan Gueset, the suspect’s car collided with the oncoming vehicle of Robert Aquino, 55, a businessman of Longos, San Fabian.
Reyes alighted from his vehicle and ran but policemen of Dagupan City who responded to the vehicular accident, chased and collared him.
At this juncture, elements of the Manaoag Police, who were chasing Reyes, arrived and sought the custody of the suspect.
A subsequent body search on Reyes
led to seizure of four heat-sealed transparent sachets of shabu one P1,000 bill
used earlier by the police as marked money and a cellular phone.
A team from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) that processed the
suspect’s vehicle also recovered seven
Caliber 45 bullets, five plastic sachets containing shabu, one aluminum foil strip and one plastic
sachet containing dried marijuana leaves.
The suspect was brought to
the Police Regional Office 1 at Camp Brig. Oscar M. Florendo, Crime
Laboratory Office, San Fernando City, La Union for examination.
Cases for violation of of Section 5, 11 and 12 of Art. II of Republic Act
No. 9165 and illegal possession of live ammunition were filed against the
