CAPITOL NEWS
Lingayen, Pangasinan – Governor Amado I. Espino, III led the
launching of a new environment program that will entice the people of
Pangasinan
to convert plastic waste into valuable items.
Called Kalinisan Karaban, the program that promotes solid waste reduction and
recycling was launched by the provincial chief executive on January 26 at the
Capitol grounds and in other areas
The Kalinisan Karaban is a provincewide program which encourages Pangasinenses
to collect plastic waste materials, including: shampoo sachets, plastic bottles
and caps, sando bags, plastic cups, spoon and fork, candy wrappers, and other
plastic scraps in order exchange “plastics for goods.”
Gov.
Espino said that the program will change the way people look at plastic
waste.
“When
they see garbage, when they see plastic, they see something else…not as
garbage but as celfon loads, food products, and school supplies,” he said.
Bautista,
Bugallon, San Carlos City, and Tayug are among pilot areas for the Kalinisan
Karaban.
Bautista,
Bugallon, San Carlos City, and Tayug are among the pilot areas where the
Kalinisan Karaban would take rounds to collect plastics from their
corresponding Barangays.
Collected plastic wastes can be exchanged for goods during the Kalinisan
Karaban Shopping day. The provincial government of Pangasinan will coordinate
with LGUs and SKs of each town and schedule when the Kalinisan Karaban Store
and Hauler trucks would visit. Acquired plastics can be swapped for goods
such as: school supplies, grocery items, bags, gadgets, sack of rice, cellphone
load and the like.
Since improper disposal and segregation of plastic wastes have been severly
affecting the environment, Gov. Espino added, “My fellow public officials,
tulungan niyo po kami dito, and
imagine your barangay, your town na
walang plastic.” saying the Kalinisan Karaban would be of much help in
reducing plastic wastes with the coordination of each Pangasinense and
official.
The Kalinisan Karaban store truck and hauler trucks are also set and ready to
roll as the blessing of each is done during the launch.
“Ano pa ang hinihintay ninyo, simulan na
ninyong magipon mg mga plastics,” Gov Pogi called on Pangasinenses to star
collecting plastics.
The
event was also attended by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. ,
Prov’l Administrator Nimrod S. Camba, and SK Federation Chairman, BM Jerome Vic
Espino, Mayor Amadeo T. Espino and Vice Mayor Joseph Espino. /Mary Beth N. Tuvera
