Espino distributes P8-M hybrid yellow corn seeds in Pangasinan

Lingayen, Pangasinan — Corn farmers from top corn-producing localities of Pangasinan recently received 1,054 bags of hybrid yellow corn seeds from the provincial government amounting to Php7.905 million.

Governor Amado I. Espino, III was assisted by OIC Provincial Agriculturist Nestor Batalla in the distribution program of the hybrid yellow corn seeds, which was held on February 14 at the Farmers’ Pavilion located within the Provincial Agriculture Center in Tebag East, Sta. Barbara.

The phase 3 distribution of hybrid yellow corn is expected to enhance further the corn productivity of the province.

Governor Espino acknowledged the contribution of corn farmers, and agricultural extension workers to the food security of Pangasinan, as he took pride of the Hall of Fame National Quality Corn Achievers award of the province.

The hall of fame award was conferred by the Department of Agriculture to the province in 2018 to fete the province’s three-consecutive-year win in the said search (2016,2017,2018). The province also got the citation in 2013 and 2014.

Governor Espino resonated the call for farmers to be patient in the preparation of documents and papers for them to avail of various projects and grants of the national government, which include the Philippine Rural Development Fund (PRDF) projects.

Meanwhile, Batalla noted that the 1,054 bags of hybrid yellow corn seeds was funded thru the Php4.8million cash prize of the province with the national quality corn achievers award, and 3.105 million from the Rice and Corn fund of the provincial government.

Beneficiary corn farmers hail from Aguilar, Bugallon, Mangatarem, Urbiztondo, Bayambang, Malasiqui, Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, San Carlos City, Mangaldan, San Fabian, Alcala, Sto. Tomas, Bautista, Villasis, Urdaneta City, Tayug, Natividad, and Balungao. /Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca
