Cattle rustler with fake claim arrested

MANGATAREM–A cattle rustler was arrested while he was selling an undocumented cow   to a farmer in Barangay Sapang here in the morning of February 14.

The suspect, Noli Labindao, 19, of Barangay Sapang, was arrested while in possession of a pregnant cow which was later traced to be owned by one Genaro Santiago, barangay treasurer of Sapang.

Santiago later testified that his cow was lost while being pastured on a vacant rice field.

Initial investigation showed that Labindao contacted through his prospective buyer, Reynaldo Gamboa, 34, of Barangay Maravilla, and introduced himself as the son of a certain Orlando Pagulayan of Barangay Sapang.

But before agreeing to buy the cow, Gamboa went to Barangay Sapang and coordinated with Barangay Captain  Efren Unay in order to secure a certification of ownership of the  cow.

The barangay official doubted about the veracity of the claim of the seller since no “Orlando Pagulayan” lives in the barangay.

Unay and the other barangay officials traced Labindao and had him arrested. (Leonardo Micua)
