REINSTATED FOR 2ND TERM

LINGAYEN- -Jubilant students, faculty members and employees welcomed the return of Dr. Dexter Buted as president of Pangasinan State University (PSU) who had finished serving his nine-month suspension order of the Ombudsman.

In fact, Buted did not only serve his suspension but is being reinstatement for his second term.

“Actually I didn’t expect this kind of welcome. I feel humbled,” he said reacting to the warm reception he received.

Tarpaulins were hung, messages of welcoming him were posted in conspicuous places inside the PSU Lingayen campus as students showered him with confetti, most of them screaming with joy and either hugged, kissed, shook hands, or took photos and videos with him.

Buted re-assumed his position effective Feb. 7, 2019 and initially reported to the PSU Urdaneta campus. He then went to the main campus here yesterday where he regularly holds office.

He said there is a referendum by the Board of Regents which was unanimously signed, received his Oath of Office from Dr. Ronald Adamat, Commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education and also the governing board chair of the PSU Board of Regents and others that prove his return for the second time as president is legitimate.

His reappointment for his second term is from Dec. 8, 2018 to Dec. 7, 2022.

But he opted to return to the PSU only on Feb. 7, 2019 as he waited for the end of the nine-month suspension meted to him and another campus executive director by the Ombudsman for oppression for arbitrarily dismissing a faculty member.

During his re-evaluation as president for second term, he got a mark of outstanding, the highest mark given to a PSU president.

He said he is thankful that despite what happened to him, he still got either high or perfect 10 approval ratings from various sectors like the Board of Regents, students, teachers, employees, alumni, among others that were required for his second term.

“What I can say is I’m here for a purpose, that is to move up, to give PSU a better institution for our young generation, ” he said.

It may be recalled that on Oct. 5, 2018, during a special board meeting, the Board of Regents unanimously approved Buted’s second term as PSU president but due to an order of the Ombudsman effective May 7, 2018, he cannot assume his position until Feb. 6, 2019.
