THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) conducted mock polls in the cities of Alaminos and Dagupan this Saturday, January 19 as part of the preparations for the upcoming May 13 local and national midterm elections.

The mock polls in Alaminos City were held at the Alaminos Central School and Telbang Elementary School while in Dagupan City, the activity took place at Bonuan Boquig Elementary School and Salapingao Elementary School.

Lawyer Alipio Alonzo Castillo III, provincial election supervisor, said a simulation of the procedures for the elections from beginning up to the last were conducted to test whether the machines function properly and transmit the correct results.

Very detailed yon na exercise dahil doon natin mapi-pinpoint kung merong pagkakamali, kailangang i-improve, bawasan o dagdagan na gawain para pagdating ng Mayo, close to perfection na ang ating gagawin,” he said.

The evaluation of the conduct of the mock polls were not immediately known at press time.

Meanwhile, Castillo said Pangasinan was chosen as one of the pilot areas in the country to use the Voter Registration Verification System (VRVS) for the first time during the midterm elections, and this too will be tested during the mock polls.

The VRVS scans the fingerprint of a person and if he or she is a registered voter, it would display his or her information on the screen.

If he or she is registered, the election officer will issue a ballot.

“Mapapabilis nito ang proseso ng paghanap ng pangalan at presinto para sa ganoon hindi mag-consume ng time, kasi time consuming yong pabalik-balik na paghahanap ng name at precinct from one polling place to another,” Castillo added. (PIA/AMB)
