Councilor blocks turnover of firearms to Dagupan police

THE turnover of 14 units of brand new tactical assault rifles described as M4 Cal. 5.56 MM Nato by the city government to the Dagupan City Police  Station was suspended when Councilor Redford Erfe-Mejia questioned the purchase of the firearms.

Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo filed Resolution No. 5721 that authorizes Mayor Belen T.
Fernandez to execute a deed of donation for in behalf of the city of Dagupan in favor of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Dagupan City and that it was funded by the 2018 annual budget.

Erfe-Mejia asked City Secretary Ryan Ravanzo to show to him in the next regular session part of the 2018 annual budget which allocated amounts for the purchase of the firearms.

Vice Mayor Brian Lim, the presiding officer, interjected that he also wants to know who participated in the bidding that was conducted before the firearms were bought.

In his Draft Resolution No. 5721. Tamayo said the brand new tactical assault rifles are intended to augment the firearms of the Dagupan Police. (Leonardo Micua)
