City Hall, DepEd, FPTA collaborate to boost education

THE city government, Department of Education (DepEd) Dagupan and the Dagupan Federated Parents-Teachers Association (FPTA) have vowed to work more closely for the continuous implementation of initiatives on education in the city.
This was echoed by stakeholders during the 3rd PTA Summit held at CSI Stadia on the theme “Fostering LGU and PTA Partnership for the Betterment of Students’ Welfare” on January 17.
Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, in her message, underscored the importance of coordination between the three sectors and other education stakeholders in the implementation of education programs.
She also shared how the past PTA Summits contributed to the significant improvement to the quality of education in the city in the past.
Through the summit, the city government was able to identify and address concerns raised by FPTA members in infrastructure, provision of educational materials and supplies and others.
Presently, the local government continues to construct modern multi-purpose covered court gyms and multi-storey buildings for public schools.
FPTA President Kgd. Imelda Gonzales said the schools in the city have levelled up through the prompt actions of the local government and the Schools Division Office.
Meanwhile, Asst. Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Lourdes Servito conveyed her gratitude to Mayor Fernandez for the unwavering support of the city government as primary stakeholder in education.
“Our Mayor has allocated P272-million for education, apart from the budget allocated years ago,“ added Servito.
Doubling last year’s P129-million, the budget allocation for this year is the biggest in the entire history of the city.
The city government also regularly earmarks a P5-million budget for DepEd’s annual Brigada Eskwela.
Corollary to this, PTA representatives from each public school presented their respective budget proposal for Brigada Eskwela 2019.
Present during the summit were City Budget Officer Luz de Guzman, City Health Officer Dr. Ophelia T. Rivera, City Planning and Development Officer Josephine Corpuz, Schools Division Legal Officer Atty. Jose Oviedo, Division Engineer Tatum Manzano and FTPA Vice President Kgd. Roger Paragas.
