DRUM AND LYRE COMPETITION WINNER

THE Zaratan Educational Institute, Inc. (ZEII) of Aguilar bested four other contingents to win the Mayor Belen T. Fernandez Drum and Lyre competition held at the city plaza on December 19.

ZEII won P50,000 cash prize while Umingan Central National High School received P30,000 as first runner-up and San Nicolas High School received P20,000 as second runner-up.

Other contingents that participated in the competition were St. Philomena’s Academy and San Jacinto National High School. Both received P10,000 as consolation prize.

Meanwhile, exhibitions were performed by the Our Lady of Manaoag Marching Band and Dagupan City National High School Drum and Lyre Corps. The latter used the brand new musical instruments and costumes provided by the city government.

Each performer was judged according to their tonal quality (musicality, clarity, blending and dynamics), performance (technique, style, mastery and coordination) and ensemble blocking and choreography.

They were judged by MAPEH Instructor Dino Estepa of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMSU) as chairman of the board, Department of Education (DepEd) Music coordinator and former National Music Competitions for Young Artists Foundation, Inc. (NAMCYA) Regional Winner Edlyn Jane Fabian Flores and former International Music Teacher Edward Calica.
