BARANGAY Pantal formally opened its new multi-purpose building following its blessing and the ribbon-cutting ceremonies on November 29.

The inauguration rites were led by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez and Punong Barangay Julita Perez, with the blessing presided by Rev. Fr. Santiago Casing. They were also joined by Councilor Dennis Canto, Councilor Joey Tamayo, Liga ng Mga Barangay President Dean Bryan Kua and PNP Dagupan Chief PSupt. Jandale Sulit.

The new building named Gabay Mamamayan Action Center (GMAC) will house several offices for different functions in the barangay.

These include the Office of the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) which will also serve as a desk for Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) cases and the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (BDRRMC) Operation office which is equipped with equipment such as first aid kits, life vests, ropes, ladders and many more. The Barangay Security Force also has an office in the building.

Also blessed during the simple rites were a children’s playground, herbal garden and kitchen.

Liga ng mga Barangay President Dean Bryan Kua said the new building will play an important role in further expanding the barangay council’s programs and services for their constituents.

Barangay captain Julita Perez shared how the numerous developments in their barangay that were realized through the initiative of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez inspired her to push for the renovation of the GMAC building.

Meanwhile, Mayor Fernandez lauded the barangay council’s initiatives that made Pantal “a model for other barangays.”

“Our services in the city can now reach our barangays, making it even more accessible for those in need,” added Fernandez.

She also disclosed that more developments in Pantal are underway, with the city government working to upgrade three more roads in their barangay by 2019. This is in addition to the ongoing construction of a two-storey health center in their area.

This is the second multi-purpose building in Pantal that opened this year. The first was inaugurated last February, with the building serving as a classroom for Out-of-School youth (OSY) enrolled under the Alternative Learning System. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
